When you think of natural hair what comes to mind? Nappy? Curly? Short? Natural hair is hair whose texture has not been altered chemically. The best thing about natural hair is versatility. I love all the textures and styles you can achieve with natural hair. You can twist it or braid it, then after a few hours or even days-whichever you choose-you can take it out and see what pattern has formed.

In the natural hair world, these hairstyles are called “twist-outs” and “braid-outs.” You can twist or braid on wet or dry hair for two completely different textures. My go-to hairstyle is the twist-out on wet hair because it’s easy to do and I like the way it turns out.

Another aspect of natural hair I enjoy is that it’s as high or low maintenance as you make it. Some people wash their hair every week or two weeks. Some people wear their twist-outs for a 5 days to 7 days or even more. Once you get familiar with the do’s and don’ts of your individual hair type you can wash and style accordingly.

Do you want healthier hair? Of course you do. A great benefit of natural hair is that it’s proven to be healthier than chemically straightened hair; it is thicker, fuller and stronger. The benefits of healthy hair are self-evident. Your hair will look and feel better!

There is nothing wrong with the curls or waves that grow from your scalp. I know most people want long flowing inches but your hair is a part of you. It does not make you who you are but it still contributes to your uniqueness. Each person’s hair strand is different from the other, embracing individuality is a big part of being natural. The hair that grows from your head is yours and you should love it as much as you love yourself!

I would love to get feedback from you about your favorite hair tips, tricks, and would love to answer any questions you might have. You might even get featured on our Snap channel! Just email questions to [email protected] or send us a message on Snap, hazecentralpub.
